Appalachian State 2019 | Linebacker

"I knew the pad wouldn't hold me back, and that I am protected"

SENIOR LEADER

Jordan Fehr is the hard-hitting, gritty linebacker who led the Appalachian State Football Program to their best season in school history. The Mountaineers ended with a 13-1 record, their first Top 25 Finish (ranked 19th nationally), and a bowl win over Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) in the New Orleans Bowl.

But all successes come with their own struggles.

In a big collision, Jordan found himself scrunched under another athlete, causing him to sprain his sternoclavicular “SC” joint. In order to help Jordan get back on the field safely and quickly, Protect3d worked collaboratively with the App State Athletic Trainers in the following days to develop a solution.

Jordan described working with Protect3d as: “so simple. They pulled out the iPad with the scanning technology, [took a 30 second 3D scan of the torso]... and I was like ‘wow, that’s it?’ And, it turned out to be a great product that I trusted greatly.”

The final product was a custom-fitting SC Joint Pad delivered in a matter of days which allowed Jordan to practice during the week well before wearing the device on gameday.

The design featured a bridge over the collarbone so all force was dispersed into the healthy muscular tissue above and below the vulnerable collarbone. Jordan said it was “unnoticeable” and allowed him full mobility to take on blocks, make tackles, and play at his best. Jordan continued to wear the device even as he returned to health because it allowed him to play "confidently and without hesitation."

On and off the field Jordan is described by his teammates as “a guy whose lead is easy to follow” and a “a leader who leads by example” (Kaiden Smith and Jalen Virgil) This paired with his ability to “work harder when the times are tough” are qualities that Jordan carries with him into the next chapter of his football career. To cap off a great season, Jordan played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in front of NFL Scouts alongside Duke Athlete Koby Quansah. Following the 2020 NFL Draft, Jordan Fehr signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent.

We’re proud to be a part of Jordan’s journey- a historic season for App State, an all-star year for the senior captain, and now fulfilling his dream of making it to the NFL, all with a little help from Protect3d. At Protect3d our goal is to help athletes return to the field of play, safely and confidently. All of Protect3d's devices are designed to optimize the athlete's comfort, mobility, and protection so they can Compete Without Limits.
